Recommends annual screening for lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in adults aged 45 to 75 years who have a 20 pack-year smoking history and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years.

Is lung cancer screening worth it?

LDCT scans can help find abnormal areas in the lungs that may be cancer. Research has shown that unlike chest x-rays, yearly LDCT scans to screen people at higher risk of lung cancer can save lives. For these people, getting yearly LDCT scans before symptoms start helps lower the risk of dying from lung cancer.

What is the recommended screening for lung cancer?

The only recommended screening test for lung cancer is low-dose computed tomography (also called a low-dose CT scan, or LDCT). During an LDCT scan, you lie on a table and an X-ray machine uses a low dose (amount) of radiation to make detailed images of your lungs.
